8-30-2011 first day

I learned, that kindergarten students have a strong urge to hug their teachers on a regular basis and will even line up to receive hugs.

  14. 9-21-2011 I learned that a kindergarten child that just fell of the swing screaming and crying can be instantly cured when a helicopter flies over. It was very shocking to witness.

  21. 10-7-2011 I have learned the students are very energetic and looking forward to the weekend and as the day progresses so eagerness to leave. Any lesson that takes more than five minutes they start to ask when are we leaving?

  22. 10-10-2011 I learned that even though a student has never spoken another language in the classroom she speaks good Spanish and even knows her colors in it. So you never know what a student’s situation might be.

  23. 10-11-2011 I learned that the important thing is to try supplement and support any of the lessons you might be currently teaching by integrating them into any projects or everyday activities. (stop drop and roll)

  24. 10-12-2011 I learned when doing a math lesson with shape blocks it is a good idea to let the students play with the blocks for a minute or two before you start the lesson.

  25. 10-13-2011 I learned on dress up days the students have more distractions than normal so you need to keep redirecting them more. (Dress like a scarecrow day)

  26. 10-14-2011 I learned there will be lessons you teach the students don’t understand and you see it in their faces, but you have to introduce the new topic at some point. (coin denomination lesson).

  29. 10-19-2011 I learned that behavior management is different for every student in that some behaviors of one student you will ignore while correcting another student for doing the same thing.

  30. 10-20-2011 I learned that when the “specials” teachers have behavior problems they refer to students as your teachers, but they forget that they are actually their kids when they have them since they are also teachers.
